Pecos is a city in Reeves County, Texas, United States. It is located along the Pecos River and Interstate 20, approx. 30 miles (48 km) west of Odessa, Texas, and is the county seat of Reeves County. The population was 8,780 at the 2010 census, and the estimated population in 2019 was 9,902. The city is also the site of the West of the Pecos Museum, which houses artifacts from the area’s past. Pecos is known for its cowboy culture and for the annual West of the Pecos Rodeo, held each June since 1915. The city is also the hometown of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
