The city of Port Augusta is located near the Port Augusta Airport (PUG). It is situated on the western side of the Spencer Gulf and is the main administrative, commercial and service centre for the region. It is a major transport hub for the area, with road, rail and air links to other parts of Australia. The city also boasts a wide variety of attractions, including the Port Augusta cultural precinct, the Wadlata Outback Centre, the Wadlata Trails Network and the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden. The city is surrounded by the majestic Flinders Ranges, and has many interesting historical sites, including the old railway station, the Old Ghan museum, the old post office and the old Flinders Ranges Council Chambers. There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure, with nearby national parks and reserves, and a range of activities available, including walking, cycling, fishing, camping and four-wheel-driving.
