Shymkent is a city located in south-eastern Kazakhstan, near the Kyrgyzstan border. It is the third-largest city in Kazakhstan, after Almaty and Nur-Sultan. The city is located in a large and fertile valley, in an area that is surrounded by the Karatau and Talas Alatau mountain ranges.
