Ulyanovsk is a city in Russia, located 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) southwest of Baratayevka Airport (ULV). It is the administrative center of the Ulyanovsk Oblast and the largest city in the Volga region. It lies on both banks of the Volga River, and has a population of over 630,000. Ulyanovsk is home to a number of historical monuments, including the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Monument to the People’s Heroes, and the State Memorial Museum of V.I. Lenin. The city also has a rich cultural life, with numerous museums, art galleries, theatres, and concert halls. Ulyanovsk is home to several universities and research institutions, including the Ulyanovsk State Technical University and the Ulyanovsk State University. The city is an important transport hub, with two airports, three railway stations, and a major river port.
